Hawaii Service Rates for 2023
As announced in our Breaking Alert sent out on December 1, 2022, Matson Navigation Company (“Matson”) announced that to offset higher costs incurred, Matson’s rates for their Hawaii service will increase by $250 per westbound container and $125 per eastbound container, effective January 1, 2023. On the same date, their Terminal Handling Charge (THC) will increase by $150 to $1,375 per westbound container and by $90 per eastbound container. In addition, the following adjusted surcharges will apply:
- Hazardous Ocean Surcharge will increase by $25 to $300 per container
- Hazardous Truck Surcharge will increase by $25 to $150 per container
- Stop-in-Transit Surcharge will increase by $175 to $755 per 20’ container and by $875 per 40’ or 45’ container
For intermodal, Matson will adjust that portion of rates separately as appropriate for the individual lane.
For Less-than-Container Load (LCL) cargo, our Customer rates will be raised based on various factors, including the commodity, density, and current costs. As a result, our Hawaii rates will increase like amounts for Full Container Loads (FCL). These changes will take effect with shipments sailing on or after January 1, 2023. Please contact your Salesperson to discuss any adjustments to your rate levels.
As you may already know, the State of Hawaii increases its Wharfage and Facility Security fees in July of each year. Though the amount of the increase is unknown, we anticipate it to be a minimum of 3% of the current Hawaii Wharfage and Facility Security charges.
Additionally, due to changing costs in our Hawaii operations, we will be increasing some of our Hawaii delivery pricing and local trucking rates effective January 15, 2023. Our Kauai delivery agent will also increase their delivery rates, which will take effect on January 2, 2022.
Please see the below table for the associated increases by Island:
Terminal Increase
Maui 5% on all services
Kona 10% on all services
KFS/Kauai 4% on all services
Guam Department of Agriculture Invasive Species Inspection Fee - Collection Change
The Guam Departure of Agriculture has announced plans to change its Invasive Species Inspection Fee collection process effective January 1, 2023.
In keeping with DHX’s practice of providing 30-day notice to our customers when rates or fees increase, the charges will be effective January 15, 2023.
The per-container rate application will be as follows:
$26 per 20’ container
$52 per 40’ container
$58.50 per 45’ container
$1.30 per linear foot for non-standard sized containers
$2.00 per revenue ton for breakbulk (new assessment)
